After welcoming a new addition to the family, the clients realised that their two-and-a-half-bedroom semi-detached home lacked adequate sleeping arrangements. Additionally, they found the ground floor layout did not work, with a disjointed kitchen, the absence of a dining area, utility room, and ground floor WC, while a conservatory acted as a barrier between the living space and the garden.

Despite these shortcomings, the clients were keen to remain in the neighbourhood and opted to extend their home rather than relocate.

Ke-design was recommended by the client’s friend.

First things first, we proposed to remove the conservatory, replacing it with a flat-roofed open-plan space to accommodate kitchen, dining, and family areas, seamlessly connected to the garden through bi-fold doors. A new back door was installed, granting access to a newly added utility room and WC.

Working within the constraints of the existing structure, particularly the projecting first-floor bathroom, posed a significant challenge during the design process. However, this extension not only addressed the need for additional living space but also facilitated the creation of a new master bedroom complete with an ensuite bathroom on the first floor.

The successful execution of this project was further enhanced by the collaboration between the clients and JL Interiors, whose expertise contributed to the creation of a stunning kitchen design and a discreetly integrated study area.
