56 High Street in Church Stretton is a Grade II listed building that was originally the Britannia Inn public house until around 1895.
In the early 20th century, it transitioned from a shop to a dwelling. Over the years, the building has undergone various modifications, including the installation of modern windows, along with a bathroom and kitchen at the rear.
Ke-design clients purchased the property when it was in a poor state of repair. While they did not wish to enlarge the building, they aimed to reconfigure the internal layout with the removal of walls and the addition of an ensuite bathroom.
They planned to replace the rear French doors with bi-fold doors and convert the flat roof to a mono-pitched roof with rooflights. All work on listed buildings requires Listed Building Consent.
The removal of the original external wall and the installation of new external doors have made the space very light and functional.
The renovation was completed with sandblasting and exposing the original timber frame, paired with an excellent choice of décor.
