A very satisfying project undertaken while Craig was working for J Ross Developments before setting up Ke-design.
Bloc hotel was a first for the client Box Build Ltd. Box Build brought this excellent unique design to Elements Europe Ltd with planning. Elements Europe specialise in modular hotel construction and was the sister company to J Ross Developments.
The 73 bedroom hotel was not designed with modular construction in mind, but it was Craig’s job to adjust and undertake building regulation and construction drawings.
Challenges:
Apart from making it work for modular construction, the building had maximised the former petrol station corner plot, so there was no room for error with 50mm tolerance. Lets not mention the coursing of the handmade black bricks.
The ground floor was slip with approx. 1m rise between reception level and ground floor rooms with the lift access in a restricted lobby off the reception.
It was Craig’s experience working on shopping malls and fire curtains that led him to being able to redesign the layout so the lift entrance could be made of feature off the large reception space.
