Nestled within the esteemed world heritage site of Llangollen, this contemporary residence occupies a plot that come with outline planning permission.
The design directive was clear: craft a 3-bedroom house with three generously proportioned double bedrooms, with particular emphasis on affording the master bedroom unobstructed northern views.
Despite the initially perceived flatness of the site, a topographic survey revealed a significant 600mm change in level across the terrain.
Adhering to regulations regarding overlooking and shadowing neighbouring properties, the design resulted in the proposed form of a mono pitch roof going right down to the first floor.
This project is the true meaning of self-build as the client did 90% of the work himself, using hempcrete blocks which lend themselves to the self-builder and making his own pully systems to get materials to the first floor.
