They say you should buy the worst house of the best street. This is what our client did. Sat on a sizeable plot, this half red brick and brown pebble dashed, detached two and a bit bedroom house certainly was.
With a minute kitchen, a conservatory and set back detached garage, both obstructing the expansive garden, which overlooked the local cricket club.
In 2018, our initial client meeting coincided with the start of Ke-design’s first work experience placement, so she accompanied us for the briefing. Planning history showed that someone had tried to redevelop the dwelling before and due to over development, it was refused.
Utilising the existing drawings Caitlin was assigned a small project for the week. Despite her limited background in architecture (none!) as a school pupil, Caitlin showed remarkable insight into spatial understanding through her sketches.
By the Friday, she had devised floor plans and visuals, including computer-generated perspectives, which formed part of her 15 minute presentation to the office, which she delivered with confidence.
Long story short, the client was impressed by Caitlin's designs. Ke-design further developed her concepts into a planning application, and the resulting design is what stands today as Caitlin's creation.
Caitlin's involvement with Ke-design didn't end there; she returned during the summer holidays to work. In 2024, Caitlin completed her architecture degree at St Martin’s, London with first class honours
While the project is pretty much finished, Ke-design is yet to capture the finished photos, but Caitlin's contribution remains a testament to her talent and potential in the field of architecture.
